MB Quartz makes some of the best sounding speakers. Look up the reviews. They do have a 3.5 inch coaxial speaker for that application (I have MBQuartz 6" component set in mine which is a 6" and a separate 1" tweeter, front and back).
I usually get my speakers from one of these 3 great sites:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com
http://www.woofersetc.com

(whichever site has the better deal on what I'm looking for).

You can look your shyt up there and you can read what other customers said about what you wanna buy -- which is great because you get a review before you buy (on most items). Good luck whatever you get. 😉

I go strictly kenwood equipment for over 20 years...........never had a problem. my full kenwood system in my 85 salon is almost twenty years old (except the CD player unit), and not only pounds hard, but sounds way better than any new system i have seen. got kenwood cd player, CD 6 pack, sub controller/EQ , 3 amps, 6x9 spakers, 3.5 dash speakers and 2 10 inch subs on a sub baffle board (no box).

also just fully upgraded my 96 2 door tahoe to a full kenwood system, and it exceeded my expectations for sound quality and volume given the weird speaker placements in all tahoes

basically...............i vote kenwood

wanna see pics of my stereo .............

dudeface, are those "free air" tens you got on the board (or just regular subwoofers made for an enclosure)? I had some 10s on a board in my old Prelude and it sounded real good too (no box). I knew a few guys who swore by putting regular subs on a board with no box, right behind the back seat, front facing (like in your picture) and you get the best and loudest sound from it. So I'm curious how your bass sounds inside the car... if you can give a brief review of the sound quality from it?

I replaced my clapped out 3.5's with Wal Mart brand ones (yes the cheapest speakers I have ever bought) and they sounded alright until I put them to the test and one completely burnt out. I paid around $10 each and IMO I got my money out of them.
If your going for loud I wouldn't recommend them they definitely don't compete with anything. Stock speakers IMO are more equipped to handle abuse than wal mart brand ones.
If your going for just a cheap replacement (ie: have no speakers and not trying for bragging rights) than I think their just fine to use as long as you don't overpower them. Mine would've lasted for a while if I wasn't so Volume happy.

Also the magnets were close to stock size (maybe a little bigger) so they fit real easy - simple pug and play install.
That's my G Body dash speaker experience hope it helps

ok.................sound is asolutely incredible. yes these are free air subs, and even though almost all kenwood subs are free air, US specifacations never include this in the pamphlets or info. basically any UK website or dealer that sells kenwood lists them as ported, non-ported, or free air. that said i believe that pretty well any sub would work in this fashion, with the right size trunk.........and proper size and amount of subs, the idea is the trunk becomes the sub box.

now as to sound quality.........inside is absolutely incredible, i have never maxed out my volume because it simply goes to loud. no distortion, and lotsa thump. being the subs are attached to a board, and the board is bolted to the back seat frame and supports, ya get all the low bass sound as well as all the vibration that would be lost in a box just sitting on the trunk bottom. when i got it super loud...........a lighter lit in the front seat between the buckets can actually be blown out by the air coming through the back seat. (when the trunk is opened you can defintely notice the loss in bass)

just a note.........never had backseat passengers before (my wierd cutlass quirk, no one EVER sits in the back seat) so i cant say how that would sound with people back there........back massage i imagine

so as far a sound LOUD AS F@#K.....crisp and clear inside the vehicle. but suprizingly not so loud outside( good for bad neighbors and thiefs) i have a sound engineering buddy from new york who is absolutely amazed by how good this setup sounds

hope that helps

peace
