I have a 85 olds cutlass brougham with a 307 motor. I just purchased this car a couple of weeks ago. I changed front and rear brake lines and have bled the brakes twice but still have spungy breaks. Does anyone know what could possibly be the problem? The previous owner said the car has sat for over 10 yrs in a garage so I'm working through all it's bugs.

Did you flush out all the old fluid? Spongy brakes usually mean air in the system or sticking parts like calipers and wheel cylinders. I recommend changing them all, including the master cylinder....just to be on the safe side.

I would try bench bleeding the master, if that went dry you'll never get the air out of the lines without bench bleeding

Good point also...

Check the brake booster I went through the whole process and the last thing I changed was the booster drove me crazy best of luck let us know what you find out.

Thanks to all the replies to my brake issues. The bench bleeding did the trick. On a VERY tight budget but new parts will be coming as well as photos may be posted today. Thanks again to all my G-Body Brothern.

that's great that it's fixed and thanks for letting us know what the fix was....alot of people never come back to say if it was fixed or not....

well stock gbody brakes are spongy to begin with lol.
Not in my case....now fords are a different story.....nine times out of ten, when brakes are spongy, its because of something done or not done to them by the owner/mechanic.
