Seems like they're sandbagging on the performance. I remember a 3-way G-Body shootout that Car and Driver did, and the Monte Carlo SS with the 180-horse 305 did 0-60 in something like 7.8 seconds. Interesting that R&T got the quickest acceleration times.

A 301 would have a very tough time making 190 HP. A 305 Chevy, sure. A 301 Pontiac, no way.

The leather interior in this looks very similar to the one in my '79 GP 4 speed car, and I can assure everyone, that 301 made no where near 190 Hp.

Even the specs (that don't match the article) seem to back this up.

Maybe a BW Super T10. Its a 1 off car and those were laying around everywhere back then.
