Ok to get you guys up to speed I'm going to have to take a step back to when I purchased those parts earlier in the week. Not only did I purchase parts that night I also purchased myself a very nice world war ii-era swiveling vice with a stand. Stan's kind of cheesy but the vice was definitely worth its salt today!

So yesterday I rough cut the root out of the rear box with the plasma cutter and cut apart my home made differential housing spreader for the C-channel and cleaned it up to be welded in. Then last night I went and met a guy that buys storage auctions out in Southwest Jersey. He had a brand new set of 50 ft welding leads aw1 with lc40 connectors. I needed him so I paid up still a good deal but two hundred bucks. And he through in a tote full of miscellaneous welding rods. so all day today has been grueling and tedious cutting grinding welding cutting grinding welding. still not done with that particular project but I've got it far enough and I've actually got the crain on the truck it's not just a stripper pole anymore.

I feel I should have gotten a lot more work done but really it's the experience using all the new equipment together that's paying off for me because I've got to be able to make it look like I've been using it forever.

Some of what I've done is probably Overkill but at least I know it won't rip off the truck

There was one small casualty I kind of let my reverse light on fire lol
IMG_20190519_201605303.jpg

there's still quite a bit of finish welding and grinding to do and it's definitely got to be seam sealed and painted but it's just about there and it was there enough that I could put the crane on top

Any markings on the vise?
Rust and some scaly gray paint lol I'm guessing I'll be able to read it once I've sandblasted it. Definitely a very nice heavy duty old vise. the guy I got it from had it outside bolted to the apron in front of his garage for the last 18 years and it still works it's not rusted solid.

Haha, just wondering. Looks a lot like an old gray HF vise my dad has -- just better patina. Thought maybe it had some Pearl Harbor history or something.

Supposedly it was military surplus but there's always a story when you're buying something off the internet I picked it up from a guy who was going through a divorce and losing his house and had to sell everything I felt bad like I was picking the bones and I couldn't afford to buy the things I really wanted like his 67 Chevelle wagon race car that looked like it had been sitting on the race car trailer since I don't know for 20 years or so. he also had a 67 Chevelle SS 396 convertible yellow with a black interior no motor no trans automatic car solid solid doors quarters and fenders he said the frame and floor had some issues the top actually looked good on it that had been in that garage for 18 years and he wanted for Grand for it but I can't buy anything now. He's got 30 days to get rid of everything and then the scrap man cometh

Either way, looks solid. I know what you mean, feeling like a vulture. I bought a couple guns from a dude in that position and genuinely felt bad. He really loved them.

Few tools are more useful than a giant *ss vise. Nice score.

I even told him I felt like I was picking his bones. He said it's better it goes to me than the scrap man
