I don't know I'm going to take it apart in the morning and see what I find. I wish I had a borescope to peek inside withIs there anything that can be done for this engine, short of a full rebuild?

That's this mornings plan but as the clock ticks money gets tighter and the parts to make the 455 work are already out of reach at the moment. Lost the buyer for the Grand Marquis.I've had that noise in my 63 394. Believe it or not, an Italian Tune Up fixed it. I've heard tell that a piece of carbon can sound like that. You have 2 options: run it and see if it goes away, or pull the head for inspection.
The Olds gods are steering you back to the 455.
That's the plan this morning first rip on the one in the truck and if it's a fail go to the other one. Yes it was broken in but Jay the mechanic 3 bays up said he had the same problem with his circle track race car and comp replaced his cam and lifters free. They told him that they had a quality control problem for a while and that's what the Machinist I have on speed dial now also said. The problem is I drove it for 2 weeks. How bad did the metal in the oil hurt the bearings? I'm standing in a field of unknown. Metaphorically speaking.Yeah, this blows. Pull the valve covers on it. I would pull apart the other 454, was the cam properly broke in on the other 454? Sucks to have to do this so many times. I am running a roller cam in my 403 stroker just for this reason. I have a stuck lifter in my Olds 350 I have to address as well before it goes in my 88 Cutlass.
I like how you thinkMake a reducer to a piece of 3/8" hose for the shop vac. Pull the spark plugs, fire up the vac, and suck out each cylinder. Put the plugs in, and see what ya got.
