Stall speed for converter question

I both agree and disagree with custom442.

Agree that his combo and goals are mismatched and there is better cam choices based on his butt dyno. Starts making power at 3000, pulls hard from 3500 to 6K. A new cam would be good or advancing what he has 4 degrees but I stayed away from that since he was asking about convertor/rear.

Disagree on the rear ratio. Looks at the power band, it will have little to no torque down low, 3.08 or so will still be a dog. I would prefer to see it with 3.90 gears . Keep in mind his present tire is 28" tall, that's alot of tire diameter (kills effective ratio). With 3.90 the car still has 130mph potential, just not cruising.

"OK... It is the way that the engine does not go over 4600..4700...4800 in 3rd gear "

If you had the power that would put you over 165mph based on the info you provided!!!

My guess is the aero drag has caught up to you way before that (165) and you are beating a dead horse.

I know that body style is stable to atleast 130mph.

Another thing to think about. If you go with a big stall and highway gears. Then your transmission is gonna fry because at cruising speed your converter will be below stall speed.

Maybe the best will be to open the rear and count teeth (hope i spelled it right) . Of what i read here before , i think its ratio is not as low as 2.29....!? It is no problem to reach about 100mph in 2nd gear.
Crusing is not an important point , on highway i drive not faster than 60 to 70 mph , because the car is very loud and it makes no fun..
The problem is that it is not possible to get 275-50 or good 265-50 tires over here !!! It is all crap :-(
So higher gears seem to be the only option to start with , and adding a posi..
Thank you for all that support , infos and finding problems i did not even think about. It is a new world for me , beeing into manual trans cars only for 20 years...
Would it be a good idea to put it on a dyno and find exactly out how much torque and hp it has ?
