Hi Guys,
I recently installed a Jeep intermediate shaft in my 442 and noticed the lower end of the steering column has a lot of wiggle to it. Is there a fix for this? There is a plastic bushing down there that slides in the end of the column and is held in with a wire snap ring/retainer. The bushing seems to move inside the steel column. I can pull it out and make a shim, but thought I'd see if someone was making something for it. I've been to a few other sites and vendors but I haven't found anything yet.
Thanks in advance,
David

I did some inspecting on a column and found that the outside tube can be squeezed down a little on the bushing and gets about half of the slop out of it. I noticed that when the plastic bushing was out, the inside tube was very loose all the way to the knuckle for the tilt. I may have to decide if I am going to 'reinvent the wheel' on this or be happy with my progress so far. All I'm after is getting the car to handle like the Corvette that the motor came out of 😀

I drove my car today for the first time with the Jeep shaft installed. I also did a quickie fix on the column bushing. I figured with the open side to the tube that I could zip tie around the tube and stabilize the bushing. It worked good, and the car drives great!! I also tightened up the gear box but I think it's too tight as the wheel won't center easily. I think I'll back that off a little and it should be good. I'll find something more permanent than the zip tie and call it good.
