My question is does the monte ss steering column housing cover fit and work on a 79 malibu cause i want to remove my column shifter and i dont want the hole where the column shifter was.

All 78-81 g body columns are the same. All 82-88 g body columns are the same. Difference is the wiper switch. There are some minor wiring differences just need to look up the diagrams to fix. That being said I think all gm columns from the appropriate years would work if you just need to change out the outer housing.the upper part.I haven't performed that conversion yet but I think it will work. Or you can just change the whole column out. Easier just costs more.

Just the housing itself will interchange, there is a couple of internal parts is the difference between the 78-81 and 82-88 columns.
Another way is to remove the handle and remove the excess pieces where the handle comes out with a small cutoff wheel. Then fill the gap with jb weld.
