Steering column swap, HELP!

I took out my old column shift steering column, and I'm putting in one without a shifter on it, and I can not get the steering column to slide into the shaft in the engine, it goes in a little bit, but not enough to put the bolt on. Any suggestions or reasons why it won't fit? Thanks.

grease it up a lil,and pull toward you on the end going into the power steering end,lne the two ends up and tap the knuckle(where plastic boot is) with a hammer and it will slide right in.
