i want to tighten up the steering on my 81 malibu is there a gear box i can swap out of a donor one?

iroc camaro, monte ss, i have a close ratio box out of an SJ GP that i will one day put in my malibu wagon or my cutlass.

Hey malibufreak, How do you tell apart a SJ GP from a regular one?

theres a GP at the junkyard near my house, but the trunk is locked and i cant find the option sheet. Look for the SJ emblems or what? sorry if this is a stupid question.

the GP i took it off of just had SJ badges on the doors. the car also had F41 suspension so i got the bigger bars and extra braces from it too. maybe the F41 package included the close ratio box? i dunno

My recommendation is going to autozone and buy a new steering box for an 86' monte ss. It is a quick steer ratio box and you can use your factory steering box as the core. I took the factory steering box out of my 80' malibu and put in the 86' monte ss one from autozone and it is a direct fit with no problems. Trust me, you'll love how good it feels once you replace it. The only thing you have to do is find the pitman arm off a monte carlo cause the malibu pitman arm is .010 small than a monte carlo pitman arm.
