Hello! I am new to the forum.

I have a 1984 Monte Carlo SS I am working on to restore. I have a SBC what I believe to be a 350 (casting # 3970010) 2 bolt. This will be a street build however I'd like to pack enough power and torque to not be bullied around on the strip either. I intend to stroke this motor, and I am looking to you guys for ideas for a cam that I can use that is aggressive, yet streetable.

The heads are not the original. When I checked the casting number on those, they registered back to a truck HD, or a dump or tow truck meant for low end power in the 1980's. So I may be planning on dumping the heads for a set of vortec heads unless......anyone believes I can rebuild these heads and get some good performance out of them. Did a search on the forums here and didnt really get the answers I was looking for.

Transmission will be a 700r4 transgo shift-kit with corvette servo.
Rear axle 3.73 Posi unit

Open to all your suggestions...

Here is what I built for the 81 olds. I used the 880 vortec hyd roller cam block and left it a standard bore. This comes out to 377 ci and I save the 180-200+ dollars in boring cost. These vortec blocks have very little to no where in the cylinders, just hone and install. Kit was a standard bore stroker kit from eagle and I got it with the dished pistons. This will come out to a 9.5-1 motor with the vortec heads. You may not need to clearance the block because chevy makes a 383 stroker from these blocks and they are clearance form the factory. The cam choice was a Comp Cam EX 270 hyd roller using the roller set up from the factory. Heads are the stock vortecs with springs to match the cam. Intake is the air gap with a 750 Edelbrock carb. Thans is a th350 with a shift kit. Converter is a 1800-2200 stall because the cam make so much torque down low and its easer on the tires. Rear end is a 3.42 posi with a 26 inch tire. This is a full dressed 81 olds cutlass with all the bells and whisles on pump gas. Car is a bracket car so it run these number all the time in good air. 12.70 at 108mph. Car get 17mpg and is a dream to drive. Just keep your foot out of the carb. I have a fresh 880 block 4 bolt mains and drilled for a external fuel pump. Eagle stroker in the box and I should be assembling it this weekend. I any one is interested just PM and give me a phone number and I can fill in he details. I have some complete 350 vortecs that can fun in the 13s for a lot less. The stroker kit is what brings up the price.

I got the 377 stroker done and its ready to go. For this block I did have to do some grinding to clearance for the Eagle rods. If some one is interested its for sale. $1300 and you pick it up or pay for the shipping. I have a vortec 350 and a vortec bloc 355 for a lot less money.
