I have an extra rearend housing with the gears out and wondering what, if any, gearset would work better for my application than the stock gears. I have roughly 1000 extra lbs of weight on the car due to hydraulic equipment and a Chevy 305 with th350 trans. I have the 7.5" 10 bolt rear. Anything I can add onto my summit order?

Getting ready to send my rearend housing to powdercoat. Anyone have any suggestions as far as gearing goes?
I've got a reinforced frame now as well so roughly 1000 lbs added on to the car. I can just swap stock gears and axles Into the powdercoated rearend I suppose but looking for something to help with torque and help make the car feel a bit lighter.

I have built several 8.5" 10 bolt rears with Summit gears and the results varied. While they set up and ran fins - no fit or durability issues - some sets did whine a bit. Its to be expected with cheaper gearsets, especially the higher numerical ratios....3.73, 4.11 etc
I dunno when's the last time you bought Summit gears, but they are made by Richmond Gear now and they even have the Richmond Logo stamped on them...I have 4.10 gears and have had then for 3 years now and there are no issues whatsoever....Go with the Summit gears, you'll be ok with them.
X2

Actually it's about a half ton. Haha

I'll be ordering all the rest of parts I need this week. Still not sure what to do with the rearend.

Everyone I talk to recommends 3:42 for their hotrods, that's what I have in my 12 bolt. Im still far away from completing my build so I have yet to use them myself but I get tons of props for the selection. Apparently the best mix of racing, street and highway.

Yes it is and that's why I know I need some different gearing. Entire frame is plated with 3/16" steel, reinforced control arms, 8 group 31 batteries at 70 lbs a piece plus 3 hydraulic pumps, stereo equipment, chrome plating on a lot of things, full sized spare, etc. I did remove some weight by deleting all smog stuff, heater box and ac. I'm leaning towards 3:42's from summit but not too sure yet.
