honestly i think you'd have more power, better reliability, and for the same or less money if you just built the engine.

That would depend heavily on the power levels you are trying to attain.

Exactly. For what you'll have into building a supercharged engine, i (or you with the right know-how) can build a 406/355 that will devistate the boosted small block, for the same amount of money, maybe even less.

With a small roots style blower like mine, maybe. With a larger roots and/or centrifugal, I doubt it.

Also, if you're really considering boosting a build, you need to consider the rest of your drivetrain. It might not hold up to the sudden power surges.

Is there a supercharger system that can bolt on to an old school chevy small block and be kept under the hood, cowl hood or stock? A low profile supercharger without a blower above the hood. Any pics would be great.
Thanks, just curious

With any of the roots style blowers you will need a cowl hood. If you go with a centrifugal, as long as you don't have an extremely tall intake, you can get it to clear.

i would go with a procharger, definately a better set up than a roots style blower! plus the blower can definately fit under your hood!

yeah vortec and porcharger both make cyntrificle(sp?) s/c but with the procharger you dont need to put a hole in yer oil pan, it has its own oil.

Honestly, i dont think you could throw 210 heads and a cam on it and not change the pistons to higher compression. 210 is pretty damn big!
how much power are you looking to make? And what kind of driving/racing?

I'd second the not going with the 210's unless you either want the stock cubic inches to have to rpm high which brings it out of the street range or you are going for a large displacement.

With the 350 I'd stick within a range from 180-200cc runners.

As stated above what power range are you looking to get out of it?

I'm looking to gain about 100, maybe a little more power. This car was my daily driver but is turning into my weekend cruiser because gas is so expensive. I don't race it, but I like to have some good fast fun. Are there any heads or cam combo that I should look for?

Honestly if you want a 100 extra horsepower without changing the drive ability and manners of your ride then a small supercharger would be the way to go. To go from 300-400 hp your looking at changing the compression, heads, cam, most likely you would want to go hydraulic roller cam. Depending on what your compression is now and what your internals are you could be read to go with a supercharger. None of this is cheap though. When you start adding it all up you might be better off buying a crate or building that 383 that you know you secretly lust for haha. Good Luck

IDK if these numers are correct, but lets assume 8:1 compression with 74cc heads, if you put vortec heads, 64cc, you should be about 9:1, toss in a com cams 268 or so cam, and you should gain about 50-75hp and have really good torque. This would cost about $600, off the top of my head. You could also do iron dart head, the 185 runners, and they may come with smaller chambers to get the compression up (if you presently have 64cc heads you'll need it.
the only prob with a supercharger is that they are a lot of money, and a blow thru carb is expensive and harder to tune. But they do require low compression, so it works well on a stock motor in that respect. For anything else you have to get the compression up.
