RHODE ISLAND
hi all,

im currently trying to change the suspension on my 85' 442 (springs & shocks)
for the springs im trying to go with the most original ones, some that will give it the (out of factory height look)
nothing that will not give it that rear en sag or make it look higher on the back.
for shocks its a lil confusing, way too many choices, ac delco, grabiel, ect.. ect...
this will be the first time i wil be doing this since i've own it, and will like to do it right,

please help, ideas, or experience.
thanks.

For shocks, get some Edelbrock IAS's all around.

For springs, I just left my stock fronts alone and replaced the rears with some cargo-coils.
Took care of the rear-end sag and leveled out the car.

I've been wondering the same thing…im tryin to get my 84 Regal ready 4 paint so I haven't even tore into my newly aquired 85' 442… I would like to start stock piling parts so when I start on it everything will come together nicely… I want to retain the stock 442 appearance, well for the most part, it might take me a while to find a great condition set of 80s 442 rims for a decent price & I wouldn't be apposed to a set of 17 or 18" polished aluminum rims,...I did snag my buddy's 86' 442 front springs for my Regal, they were the first set of stock g.body springs I tried that would allow 20" rims to clear… Im excited to drive my 442…hopefully this winter, I will get an engine put together & examine the transmission & rear end that came with the car, then hit the streets in the spring of 2012

X2 on the Edelbrock ISAs. They are a great upgrade from the originals. Poly end links. I bet after these two you find out you really don't need new springs. But if you still decide to upgrade springs Moog spring charts have been posted on here several times and are reasonably priced.

I went with bilstien hd on all 4 corners. But for springs I decided on hotchkis lowering springs

thanks, so Edelbrock ISAs, change the poly end links, and some moog springs will give me that original look?

moog springs will def restore factory ride height as long as you get the right ones, as there are many options. the bilstien HD are great shocks as well. they are the competitor of the ias but have a different valving setup. they are a hair cheaper. some like them better some like the edelbrocks better. i went with bilstiens because i run them on my truck and were still good after 80,000 miles.

BTW: the hotchkis springs only lowered it about 1-1.5". i wouldnt have done them because they are crazy expensive for the price i paid i couldnt beat it over moog springs (factory replacement) springs
