Just need a quick answer to a stupid question as I am at work making a deal for some parts.

Is the rear sway bar the same in all 81-87 gbody cars? As in a 85 GN and an 86 cutlass? I am not at home to look under the cutlass, but I know it has one.

thanks in advance to whoever answers.

The sway bars are the same except the slightly thicker "U" bar that didn't contour around the pumpkin (used in some '78-'80 cars.) But they all bolt/fit the same for '78-'88. Depending on your plans an aftermarket set up might be a better choice. Others will chime in on those ones.

Part of the deal for the parts car I aquired involved giving him back the sway bar, but I have no time and the one from my GN is just laying there so I was going to give him that.
I have aftermarket trailing arms in my cutlass and have already drilled them for a factory sway bar.

That I'm aware of being '81 up it would be the same regardless of being a base F41 car, GN, 442, SS. GNX may/should(?) have a different one.

Only difference I have ever seen in 81-87 bars is on the odd chance you find a v6 car with F41 (non GN) they had a 3/4 in rear bar instead of the 7/8in that the v8 cars and turbo Buicks got.

F41/FE2 rear bar- p/n 10029113. It's 22 mm diameter.

F41 front bar- p/n 472116. It's 32 mm diameter.

FE2 front bar is p/n 459215. It's 29 mm diameter.

And it's true that most V6 applications got a 16 mm rear bar.

i found one of these last year in a junk yard. wasn't sure what i was looking at, and knew it was too small for me, so i left it.
