BUILD THREAD Sweet Johnny & Gina: A Love "Two Large" To Fail

Ahh those look good, clean them up and put them back in...Actually 1 and 4 look like the problem children.
You know I saved 'em to use again in the future! Numbers 3 and 4 are the for the vent, and it had 3/8" hose with clamps that were doing nothing. I did cut the 5/16" replacement about 1" too short but centered it between the two hard lines which both inserted over 1.5".

Typical Taylor set is anywhere from 40 to 60, but you can get sets on RA just as good for under 20.
I'm definitely interested in which brand that would be, and I also like the "cut your own" type of wires. And you got a sweet deal on those plugs, I wish I could be paid to take new ones off someone's hands.

As for the wire looms, I've seen all kinds of aftermarket ones but was hoping to keep everything exactly the way it came. Now I'm not sure. If I end up switching to headers/ swapping intakes then I'm definitely changing the valve covers and adding blue plug wires & whichever looms tickle my fancy that day. And my fancy is ticklish. I'll gladly accept anything you're kind enough to send, and will owe you some BBQ or something when you make that road trip.

On the FP you made a better choice with what you have. Fuel sufficiency is a clear coke bottle or Mason jar. Crank for about 5 seconds and jar should be half full or more. 30 GPH is .5 gal per minute. 5 seconds ( 1 one thousand.. 2 one thousand.... 5 one thousand) and stop... Go look at jar...

On the sock take off gas cap, blow air into the supply line, just a 1 second puff of compressed air. It might blow the sock off but it will clean the crud out and least keep you going to work until later.

Pull the tank like you plan is the best way. You can remove lock ring and pull unit with sender and sock, and flush tank with hot water then let drain. Pool chemicals Muriatic Acid is a less than commercial grade of hydrochloric, you can put about 200 ml, or just 16 oz or about. Swish it around carefully as it is acid, let sit about 10 to 15 min then dilute down with water (garden hose) and then dump. This will clean out all the dried on embedded garbage that collects from the additives in today's fuel.
Rinse out again with water and dump. Any remaining water just soak up with old bath towel and remove. Let tank air dry and you can use heat lamp for a bit to make its good and dry. From there clean and rebuild pickup unit with new sock and sender and put back together.
Solid advice as always, thanks man.

Those are definitely the correct plastic looms and distributor cap retainer ring but I didn't see the rubber one that slides in behind the valve cover. Thanks for posting the pics with part numbers! I like to keep track of those nowadays since there are so many slight variations.

Hello all, I thought I'd give a little update, minor as it may be. Progress has been slow mostly due to the weather but also due to some physical limitations and a busy schedule. I purchased my Cutlass after wrecking my prior transportation, and that wreck has had some lasting effects on me. Since then I've had less than 40% mobility of my left arm and I lose circulation/ feeling in my hand multiple times throughout the day, which led to another short break from the paint booth. Alongside neck issues I have a rib out of place and it's putting substantial pressure on a group of nerves and blood vessels near my shoulder, which has problems of its own. Hopefully the physical therapy twice a week will get things back in place soon, but until then that hand still works just fine to hold an air hose.

This is the result of a simple 20 minute drive home after work.IMG_20240216_183812223.jpgIMG_20240217_182550924.jpg

Now, with that said I'm not dead in the water- I've managed to accomplish a couple things since the last update but I haven't taken pictures yet and will do so Monday since I work weekends. Aside from that I've been modifying my toolboxes, have made purchases from forum members, and hope to make some progress with those parts as well. Special thanks to 84cutlasssupreme, 87National, Zelnak Zilla, 78Delta88, timo22, WHYTLIE, and of course 69hurstolds who was kind enough to donate multiple NOS parts.

Cool car , I’d rather drive that than a vw as well
Just get it running and enjoy it , don’t fall into the trap of thinking everything has to be new or pretty
You can fix it as you go over the years
Good luck
It's my current daily driver and I enjoy every minute of it! I'm hoping to do some serious work to it this year.

That nerve damage stuff sucks man, the pain gets easier to ignore over time. Hope you can regain some mobility quickly with pt. Looking forward to seeing more progress on this build. Wish I had something to contribute and return the benevolence, but I'm still keeping an eye out for the parts we talked about. Lmk if there are more.

This right here. I've refined my SS over the years with things I've seen to upgrade it with and even re-built a few things better. It doesn't happen over night and well worth it in the long run.

Definitely get the physical limitations, do what you can and don't tear your body up worse in the process.
