Tachometer 6 syl vs 8 syl setting

So I was going to install my new Rally-Pac cluster and was preparing to set the TACHOMETER to an 8 syl engine, in accordance with this handy guide.

But on my tach BOTH points are shorted by two small soldered on wires. Looks pretty "stock" too. No second hand job. So color me confused.

Should I leave it? Or cut the shorted 6. syl wire?

mine was the same but i cut the 6 cyl wire and it worked fine for my 8 cylnder cutlass
