Taxi???....look again

Look up 'NYPD Taxi Police'. They look just like NYC taxis but they are fitted with lights and siren and they have on duty officers in them.

My local PD is pretty sly too. They have an unmarked gold Astro Van, an unmarked silver Taurus that is impossible to identify as a police car until it lights up in your rear view mirror, and a Chevy Uplander minivan complete with stick family stickers on the back!

Yep, seen this kind of thing too. In town and on freeway. Deadly because you'd never know until the lights come on...

Down here I remember the Florida highway Patrol using Foxbody 5.0 Mustangs as pursuit cars, and for a while 1LE Camaros. I no longer see the Camaros, but mostly Dodges and Crown Vics...and also SUVs. I wouldn't think SUVs would be used as a pursuit vehicle.

Here in Pittsburgh I don't see hardly any Cown Vic police cars anymore, I think they are pretty much phased out. Mostly all Ford Taurus's and Explorers now, and they are FAST with their EcoBoost V6s and AWD. County Police use the 06-13 Impalas and I've been told they are slow as molasses. The Dodge Chargers were in for a while but I don't see those anymore either. Also a few Chevy Tahoes and Suburbans still around.

I know a few cops and was told the Tuarus they use now is really quick and stops great with the huge brakes but they don't get better fuel mileage than the Crown Vic

In my town in BC we had a "homeless" man holding a sign on the corner of an intersection on the highway that read "I'm a police officer and if you're using your cellphone you're getting a ticket."

Of course you wouldn't be able to read this sign until it was too late.

I saw a story on that and if you were on the phone you'd never see it...Cops ride the buses so they could look down on the cars and radio ahead is they saw someone on the phone or texting

We had a variety of vehicles in Southeastern North Carolina. Most of them are marked dodge chargers. But we also have unmarked chargers, tahoes, and Taurus. Normally these are pretty easy to spot because of the antennas all over them, pitch black Windows, and non civilian plates. I did see a new Chrysler 200 that had a car pulled over. No tinted windows, civilian plates, and lights where you could barley see them. That's the best one I've seen yet.

Most everything we have around here is marked. We still have a few Crown Vics that are being used as well as the Charger and the Ford Escape. Pickup trucks too. They are all marked in some way and they all have that big ole spotlight on the drivers side above the mirror. I haven't seen anything out of the norm like some of you guys. Not even officers using their on P.O.V..

I know a few officers as well and I've heard much of the same. They've all told me they love the Explorers too. They are fast, stop well, handle amazingly, and they can fit all their stuff in the back.

A few departments had the Caprice PPVs but they seemed to take a huge backseat to the Taurus and Explorer and I haven't seen them lately. I actually was hoping the Caprices would sell. Rear wheel drive and LS power would have been cool in a 4 door sedan. Would have been cool to buy a decommissioned car and hot rod it. Even if they were made in Australia.

We have a black 2014 dodge caravan, and a black explorer. The explorer is pretty obvious, the caravan not so much. I am usually pretty good at spotting the little things to tell the unmarked police cars apart from a regular car, but I have yet to find anything on this caravan that sets it apart.
