Tell me a little about my engine

You and your carberator..? Replacing a gasket.. ok but be carefull not to overtighten as you can ruin it. MANY noobs do this to the Q-jet. Basic idle adjustment or manually checking to see if your secondaries will open fully via the linkage vs pulling it open by hand.. ok. Changing jets or metering rods & other tuneing. Save yourself time and grief send it to http://www.sparkyscarbs.com. BTW its not a Chevy Cadillac 500 Q-jet its a Q-jet setup for the Cadillac 500 as in not set up for a Chevy. I also had a 75 800cfm Q-jet from a 75 Cadillac on my Cadillac 500 powered Cutlass. Its a little odd for tuning but it can perform. My 3,800 pound with driver Cutlass ran 110mph in the quarter with it and the electric choke is nice on cold mornings etc. The cfm formula is crude and not very accurate. I wish that stupid thing would get removed from "lore".

Not sure what gear you have but you should probably just get taller bigger better tires on the rear. I like 275/60/15s for behind a stout big block and if you only use it as a summer car and don't need it for a daily commute make them drag radials. I like the Nittos because they hold up well and won't send you off the road when it rains. Did you make any passes just leaving it in drive and letting it shift itself?

Basement 14s is about right on short hard regular radials for 97mph. The right converter and drag radials should drop your 60 foots from the 2.1 to 1.8s. 3/10 in the 60 foot is often 6/10s by the end of the 1/4 mile. IE 14.10s can go to 13.50s. And you will still be running 97 or 98 mph. Additionally have Sparky or other q-jet pro dial in your carb and IF you can have an Olds racer help you play with your timing you could be looking at basement 13s in the 102 to 105 mph range. BTW when my GN was brand new & box stock with stock 215/65/15 Eagle GTs I went to my first ever test & tune and ran 13.96 at 98mph. 3 good passes out of about 9 passes. Aside from the drag radials a simple inexpensive air bag inside your passenger rear coil can also help traction & launch a lot.
