Heres the history on it,
I fully rebuilt the trans before putting it and the motor in at the end on last summer. It has all new clutches and seals, and a B&M shift kit, the shift kit is set to the truck/towing setting (didnt want to break everything w/ the full race setting)

Now i drove the car for about 2 months, and the trans work perfect, very firm and fast shifts, but not to point of snaping axels or u-joints (or my neck lol)

But, 1 day i got on it for everything it had, it wound first gear up, then the tranns started to chater as it grabed second gear. After messing around with it, i determined it to be the governer (or so i tought), I pulled it and sure enough the piston was stuck, so i got it cleaned out and moving freely again.

Now here is where it gets wierd, I reinstalled the governer, and it sounded like it was fine(chatter is gone), but after driving it for a few miles, i noticed it was skipping second. At first i figured i must have blown the sprag, but I have second when engine brakeing, and if i shift manualy it will go into second, if i dont get on it, as soon as i push the gas hard it just goes back to first. and if i put the shifter into third after getting it into second gear, it will first go into first then into third.

Also the detent cable is not conected.
It also has a brand new vacuum modulator.

I will say that im thinking the pistons in the vlave body are messing up.

Let me know what you think.

first thing pull the pan and see if there is any damage...large chunks of metal is a bad thing,if no metal chunks and a brown stinking fluid will mean the fluid side is at fault... if the fluid seems ok i'dd pull the valve body and clean all the valves......if you can't find any stuck valves the only other thing i can think of is the rings on the input housing..i hope your fix is easy to find and fix...jesse

The fluid is only a few months old, and is still like new.(clean, bright red)
I havent pulled the pan yet, but there is no metal particles sticking to the dipstick.
And being i dont have a garage, and there is snow on the groung, pulling the pan will have to wait.
My only guess is I am having is a problem with one of the vlaves, weather its sticking, or maybe a broken spring behind one.

trans

i hope you don't have to drive it,but if you have to you have to.....if the sprag broke it will leave a lot of big chuncks not so much fine metal at least thats the way i remember it... the reason i mentioned the rings on the front housing is because i've seen it do basically what your trans is doing.... man i bet you can't wait till spring.....down here where at full sun and 78 degrees 😀 ....i just can't figure you guys out...j/k...jesse

I hope it doesn't have anything to do with the modulator valve you got from me. I would feel like crap!

I am positive the sprag is good, if it was broke i shouldnt have second gear at all.

Its not the modulator piston you sent me.

Unfortenitly i have to drive the car, its the only car i have, my other car got wrecked because some a-hole pulled out in front of me.

Detent is unhooked because of the style of cable, i dont have linkage to hook it, but i know it cant do what is happening. It only conrols down shifting, and once into third gear, it wont downshift until the speed of the car drops. the problem i am having is isolated to second gear.

It like it wont hold second gear.

I would say it has to be something in the valve body.

kick down cable

dude the kicked down cable has to be installed or on full throttle it will shift from 1st to 3rd. hopefully you did not hurt the trans already.
make sure it is adj right if not sure take to a trans shop.
good luck
