th-350 trans acting wierd

No, the kick down cable does NOT have to be hooked up, I have not had it hooked up from day 1 (when i put the engine and trans in the car) and it was shifting great for over a month, but then the governer got stuck, and sence then the trans wont shift right (as i said before, i did fix the governer).

And the kickdown cable mainly only controls down shifting, and sometimes will keep it in gear longer when under full throtle. And if it is unhooked, you want to set it to a no throtle setting or it will downshift early, and it will hold the gear way longer then normaly nesacery.

Also i have run mainy "street-strip" cars that did not use the kickdown, and have never had this problem.

how do think a kicked down cable works it puts the line line press to max to make the trans shift down also to keep trans in all 3 gears at max throttle
maybe you did have a governor problem but with a th350 you have to have it hook up, if you dont beleive me ask a know trans shop
and i know for experience for racing i work on cars and trucks for a living
i bracket raced for the last five years and won alot of races and money. so to question what i got to say if a mistake on your part.
good luck with you trans problems and hope you didn't already hurt your trans and hope you had case savers in it.
check out my car in my album

The cable on a 350 only controls downshifts. The modulator controls line pressure based off of the load of the engine. The t.v. cable on a 200-R4 and 700-R4 controls line pressure, it will fry the transmission if the cable is disconnected.

I have been working on and racing cars for more then a decade and a half, and i have rebuilt many transmissons (but by no means am i an expert on trans's, My thing is engines) And to top that, I come from a family that has been racing, repairing, building custom cars sence the time of moonshine running.

And as i said before, i have run many th350's in my own cars, many of which I didnt use the kickdown cable. Not using a kickdown will NOT cause my problem, nor will it hurt the trans.
Know of course not using the kickdown will let the trans go to third much faster then normal, but when you put your shifter in second, the car will use and hold second gear, and alow full power to be used in second. where my car will not hold second gear except for when i "baby" it. But first and second gear hold all the power in the world. And if it was the kickdown messing with me, my problem would NOT be isolated to second gear, it would mess with all the gears.

Also if you check around, you will find that many people that use there cars for racing that do NOT use the kickdown cable (search for th350 shifting problems in google, and you will find many forums where people using the th-350 do NOT use the kickdown and do not have any problems)

And of course any transmission shop will tell you that you need it hooked up, but any dealership will also tell you that you need all of your stock smog equipment hooked up. (and we all know better then that).

And 1 more thing that says its not the kickdown cable, When i shift the car "manualy" (which over rides the kickdown cable) and I go from second to third, the trans drops back to first, then shifts to third (which to me screams valvebody problem)

I haven't hooked up the detent cable since...ummm never, always ran b&m transpak: never had a problem.. I Like to control my transmission:standard-automatic.
