Good to see that you're back at it. Your first 'bu was pretty rough. I think you were wise to abandon that one and find a good replacement. Just think of all the work that was saved going with this car. You ultimately made the right choice.
Man, you would have been welding and cutting for years to come.
Good luck with your project. 🙂

I stopped at the auto parts store and got some gas struts for the hood hinges. I plan on going with Glasstek fiberglass hood and trunk lid soon. I am going to take the springs off the stock hinges and use the struts and ball mounts. I am working on using struts to lift the trunk also. I believe that the torsion bars may be too stiff for a glass trunk.

where did you buy the shock absorbers/hardware? is there a reason for the uneveness? maybe some shock absorbers from a camaro, firebird, hatch glass? or possibly a minivan rear hatch(pontiac trans-go,or caravan?)

I got the front end bolted back on the car tonight. I used the right front fender from the 81 because the fender from the 79 was crunched at the bottom.

I also went ahead and put the 81 header panel on the car. The 79 fender did not have a hole for the top bolt in the header panel, so I had to drill a hole and cut a square hole out for the nut clip. The car should be ready for paint soon.

I am going to order my fiberglass hood and trunk from Glasstek this week. Then I am going to finish the strut lift for the hood and trunk. I just need to move the ball studs closer together for the trunk, I think they should lift a glass trunk. If not I can get stronger struts. I know that those struts will lift a glass hood so it's not money wasted.

Got my glass hood and bumpers set in place. The hood was so light I put it there myself. Also got the glass trunk lid drilled and mounted. I need to attach the latch and drill the hole for they lock cylinder tomorrow. Car is almost ready for paint.

Any updates? How did you make out with the hood hinges?

I stopped here unfortunately. For some reason I ran out of momentum. I got busy with my race bike and was chasing a CCS Mid-Atlantic series, then sold that bike and bought another bike to race. I'm trying to balance racing motorcycles and finishing my car. :blam:

I removed the gas tank with the help of a friend sometime in November 2012. That was the last time I touched the car and I'm getting ready to get started again soon. I saw on the maliburacing forum that they were using these struts on the hood hinges and took their word that they would work, although I have not tried it yet. I was in the process of trying these struts on the fiberglass trunk lid before I put them on the hood to see if I could make them work before buying more.

I don't have heat in my garage and the tons of cold weather we have been getting this winter have not been helping. Time to find my round tuit and finish this car.
