Don't be too hard on your self for the sbc decision. Dollar for dollar the Chevy is more bang for the buck. Especially when you are starting from scratch. I've had almost every Olds engine in a G body Cutlass. 260, 330, 403, 425 and 455. That was back in the 90's when every junk yard had plenty of them at realistic prices. Now 25 years later those engines have either been sitting since then in those same yards or have been on the road racking up even more mileage and wear and the prices have quadrupled. $375 in 1996 for a complete 455 with all accessories and now they want $1200. Hell back then nobody wanted the Olds engines, G bodies with an Olds 350 or 403 sold for much less than a similar car with a chromed SBC...
I put a GM 350 crate engine in my current Cutlass and have no regrets.
binghamton newyork @garysupullit engines bbc sbc fsb fbb any engine they got in the yard is under $300 complete i was very suprised they still got the same prices from when my dad was up here 20 years ago

That is what I did with my Regal, swapped the Buick V6 out for a SBC because it was cheaper and more options still available. It is still all GM in the end anyway. In some areas it is hard to find U-pull its let alone yards with anying older than 2000s.

Finally got the booster out, that was a royal pain that I never want to have to do again...

The prices we pay to drive an old car...
She should finally be on the road some time this week

New booster in, pedal hooked up, column back in it's spot, aaaaaaaand BAM! Brakes still don't work. BRAKE light is still on, pedal even mushier than before. I guess I'll just start with a bench bleed and bleed the entire system again

Hooray for old project cars!

Well the brakes work just fine now, so the car has plates and it's drivable. I've probably put about 70 miles on it, when last night it starts ticking like crazy. No smoke, no burning oil, I didn't lose any oil, didn't lose any trans fluid, but it sounds terrible. My friend who was with me said "oh that's just an exhaust leak, happened to my Mustang all the time". Now I'm just thinking it better be an exhaust leak, I know I want a new motor but not this soon

Oops...#6 doesn't look like it was too happy. Should get new header gaskets soon enough, along with a fuel filter, rear shocks, a shifter cable, and new belts. After that, it shouldn't have any problems left to fix until it's next oil change

Did a little work on the Gutlass. Mostly cosmetic, cleaned it up and brought the chrome back, white letters on the tires. I also finally got my Unsanctioned club sticker and got that put on, even if it is slightly off.
