Sunshine on a warm day works well to soften a molded carpet. Heat gun also works well.

When you do the install dont use an adhesive at all. The best thing to use is a steamer. My buddy who does it for a living installed mine and the steam makes it conform really well. I was amazed.

when ordering carpet from rock auto, what is the difference between cut pile and essex-super plush?

What you get at stockinteriors is a LOT more color choices, it seems.

Are you sure you want to step on those, you might have to leave them in the bag when you install them.

I purchased from stock interiors and although I have not attempted install yet (coming soon to a Malibu near you) was happy with the experience and apparent quality.

For thermal insulation I did A LOT of research, frustrating too as everyone seems to have conflicting and contrasting opinions on the matter. I found that a lot of products, even the high ticket $$$ items like Dynamat are geared mostly for acoustics and sound deadening, with thermal insulation as a secondary benefit. I wasn't really prepared to spend $300-$500 on this sort of thing, especially with such mixed reviews. Have read Lizard skin is REALLY effective but again expensive and needs to be sprayed-not something I was willing to do. Also, didn't want to go down the infamous (and apparently rather smelly in the summer for some folks) peel and stick roofing products found at the depot of homes in the roofing section.

Finally went with a product that was very well reviewed and quite cost effective, with thermal insulation (closed cell construction) as a first priority and not a side benefit. Will let you all know how good or not it is once its installed, but they have some test results on their site and it seems legit. (EZ cool is the product name, its also very light weight) Also loved that its a relatively small business and made in the USA.

^^ great post!!! I'm building my 78 Monte now, have a hotter than hell floor board in my 66 502 Chevelle. Just requested their sample.... This sounds great... I really want the interior of the monte to be quiet as it's going to be a DD when done, even though it'll be somewhat loud... Thanks for posting
