Been making very good progress on the car this weekend. I have the passenger’s side rear floor piece almost ready to weld in.
I got the center bridge section fully welded in and metal finished out, it looks good but more importantly has added the much needed strength back to between the front and rear halves. No more flexi-flyer here now.
Yesterday I spent some time laying out the bead roll lines to add strength to the floor pan, something I foolishly failed to do last time.
From concept…
…to reality:
Have to thank my better half for operating the wheel on the bead roller for me, while she controlled the feed rate I was able to concentrate on the start/stop points and following the lines.
Next up was to make and weld some attachment tabs on the car wall side, clean things up, and put the sanded finish on it.
Then it was time to shift the focus slightly, removed the side panel to access what was left of the old rear floor.
That’s it, all that was remaining, which wasn’t much anymore. All of that is now gone, today’s itinerary is to prep the welding surfaces and punch spot welding holes in the tabs, then start burning it in permanently. The side panel has already been trimmed down to the proper dimension and test fit together, so things should go pretty smoothly. Also hoping to get a good start on making the new driver’s side pan and bead rolling it today too.
One last look:
