I'm sorry I meant did you remove them to clean up and paint ? I'm trying to find out how it's done properly. Searched for awhile and read some but no pics of the process.

If you’re referring to the chrome trim on them, yes I removed them a zillion years ago when I first painted the car. The trim is just that - trim that clips onto the drip rails. Take your fingers and hook them on the underside of the trim with your thumbs on the edge and slowly and carefully twist up and outwards. Starting near the end helps. The trim will come off. Installation is the reverse of the process. Just be careful, it’s fairly delicate and can damage easily.
