The Power of the G-Body Forum

I say give the market time. Itl come around. When 50s and 60s cars become more scarce newer cars like the g body will take off further.
Like the demo monte carlo ls fest was mentioned for the swap. Hooker and holley just not even 3 months ago came out with a g body KIT.
As they get around the aftermarket will also.

But I don't want to be forced into spending a few Gs on a LS swap because support for the original powertrains and suspensions are discontinued, and expensive upgrading is the only option.

Hey if you havent noticed yet this is an expensive hobby, when you where younger and your parents bought you all those hot wheels, they didnt realize the most expensive hobby would start off with just 99cents. Look at us all now we just cant wait till the bank rolls in so we can blow it all on cars and parts.

Haha thats not what I meant. I was just using that as an example as support for g body by saying there may be more to come.

Example: I sent a question to Painless Wiring using their customer contact e-mail about whether they would ever be making a Direct Fit harness for G-Body's. No reply. It was right before SEMA so maybe I cut them some slack.

Just an FYI the Painless Kits: 20102 , 20103, 20104 are all basically direct bolt in for our vehicles. They all have the bulkhead pass through style connector.
The difference between kits is how many circuits you need.
I installed the 20104 kit in my 84' Regal and it went in smooth.

That's good to know CW. Thank you. I bet if I had called them that would have been the answer. Gonna have to break down and buy one.

Clone TIE Pilot: I think there's still good support for our cars. Thankfully GM made the cars with so much swap-ability (engines, trans, rears, suspension) that you could put just about any GM powertrain in it and there would be motor mounts and trans crossmembers to fit it. Granted some of the CCC stuff may be hard to find, but the Quadrajet is old in its base design that you could easily use a non CCC version and prob get better gas milage 🙂

I think the only thing that was holding the G-Body back was the lack of replacement sheet metal. Now that certain members are tackling that issue head on, I believe the builders are going to be all over this. When I saw the list of proposed parts posted by TobyP, I wrote somethig to the affect "before that list is done and parts are readily available, you better buy the cars you want before people start charging stupid money for them."

That is the other side of the problem, I don't want to downgrade to a non CCC Qjet. The CCCs do get better mileage if they have not been screwed around with plus it keeps the car street legal which is a big deal in some states like mine. There is a ton of cool stuff they don't make for these cars anymore. There were kits for screw in idle tubes, stripped lean stop screw repair kits, kits to convert the rich stop to external adjustment, and adjustable choke pulloffs. There were also kits to adjust EGR flow, performance PROMs, aftermarket CCC ECMs that you could program without PROM burning, dual snorkal air cleaner kits, etc. At least they still make 059 Vortec heads for 305s with Merecruiser.

My experience with the CCC QJet is limited. I was a line tech for a Cadillac Dealer from 1988 to 1994. During that time GM was phasing out the QuadraJunk for DFI Throttle Bodies. I didn't cut my teeth on them like some of the other guys that had been there a while. It always seemed to me like it was a good idea that just didn't work out well. There were always problems with drivability, idle quality, off idle issues, that kind of stuff. To me the idea of going to an old school QJet is an upgrade not a downgrade. Especially now with the Edelbrock QJets and the like. Again, I kind of came in when they were going out (for Cadillac that is).

I never had that kind of trouble with CCC Qjets, Thridgen and Montecarloss forum members love them and advise people not to rip them out. The CCC doesn't like vacuum leaks, even a small leak can make the ECM go haywire. However, CCC carbs were designed to work in a wider variety of enviromental conditions than non CCC carbs, provide excellent daily reliability (when not screwed up by POs), and still provide good gas mileage with more precise fuel metering. Don't know how many times I see online of some guy ripping the CCC out of his car to make it run better, only ending up running worse than ever. That to me is why I see going to an oldschool Qjet is a big downgrade. Besides making the car street illegal which is always a big downgrade. Eddy hasn't make new Qjets in many years, even then they are generic spec instead of proper OEM specs like the originals.

Clone, it is true that replacing the CCC Qjet with a non-CCC Qjet is technically not legit. The same can be said about any engine modifications such as raising the compression over stock or replacing the cam with one that has a more aggressive profile. Any of the above modifications my pass a visual check or the tailpipe test but it's not the original configuration that was orinally qualified and hence technically not legit. Anywho, sorry for the hijack but I wanted to add my two cents with regards to your comment.
