what's that row of round red things above the diff? does he have air horns mounted down there?

Probably air horns. It was most likely the only place he could mount them. Any tailgater would get an ear full!

I was thinking it was something like a Cuda or Challenger scoop styled glass hood. Makes sence since it uses Coronet fenders.

Local junkyard has a few g bodies...
4 door Malibu, 78-80 gp, 78-80 cutlass, 78-80 regal, 84 regal. Pretty picked over but they got good hvac boxes, gp is a console car, cutlass has a stock looking fiberglass hood.
