My grandson who is 12 sells the eggs from the chickens that he takes care of, he is saving up for a dirt bike. They live in farm land and their road is not a busy one even without covid-19 and he leaved the eggs with a box for payment at the end of the driveway. Some lowlife the other day took all the money out of the box which was close to $20. It's too bad my son's dogs were not wandering around, he has two African Bull Mastiffs and they look menacing if you don't know they are gentle beasts. So today taking a break on the GP I helped him modify the box with cutting slot to drop the money in and we put a latch with a lock. Sad that a 12 year old has to learn about the creeps that roam this planet. The other problem with a locked box is with the open box people would be able to take their change if they didn't have the exact amount

And on a side note if any of you know the Country Sisters restaurant on 86 that is or was on the corner of my son's road burnt down on March 30. It was run by the Menonites and it was a favorite of many truck drivers, cops and everyone else who ate there once.

Wow, what a sad story as it is nice to know that in this Great country there are still good honest people left. Tell your grandson that he should learn from this that their are good and bad people but not to try to think negative of everyone.
I live in Long Island, NY for many years, We lost that greatness a long time ago as too many people that have no real roots here just come to somewhat take whatever they can and never even think of putting anything back. And btw I am not talking about all people who come from across the border, we have plenty of jerks that think Long Island is just for them to play at the beaches and dump.

I remember years ago traveling to visit my parents and once you got into Virginia, you could pump your gas and pay at the counter. I just recently drove that route again and everything is on lock down, credit card swipe and surveillance cameras...........isnt it sad !

Yup. Long Island changed. Im out east. In this area they would have taken the money, eggs, and probably the chicken if it was close by. I dont even have the garage doors open if Im out there working. Too many skells driving up and down the local roads looking for stuff to steal.
I hope you chain the box down. They might take it with them if they cant open it right there.

I have to ask. What exactly is that on the plate ? I mean besides the bacon.

That sucks. The World has caught up to you. 1964 the World's Fair was in NYC. All my relatives came to see it and bunked at our house. One night the window screen slowly opened where my Cousin was sleeping. She ran upstairs to wake my Dad who grabbed a hammer and went looking to do damage. My Mom looked out the window and saw a guy standing on a soda crate trying to get the screen open. She let out a howl and the guy scooted away before my Dad could bash his head in. No guns like nowadays. We had slept with the windows open up to then, in NYC. Not any more.

3 eggs, farmers sausage, homefries...you get homemade jam for the toast. The regualar breakfast 2 eggs, meat, homefries is only $5.25.
Mennonites know how to cook and bake. My Wife even as a girl won first prize and got a lot of dirty looks from the old ladies.

Worst crime I grew up with was ex or wannabe high school suitors of the 2 sisters blew up the mailbox down by the road with a pipe bomb. Well, that was after they tried hitting it with a plastic jug of water and it just spun, and hitting the pole they didn't realize was 4" steel tube filled with concrete with a bat they lost. (Bet that impact hurt)

At the time I thought life in a 15 square mile town of 500 people stunk. Now I've got a better appreciation of life in an area like that.

Everywhere these days has untrustworthy people. Red states, blue states, big cities, small towns. When you look how much worse it's gotten in the last 40 years you wonder how much worse it might still go.
