Thinking About a Used Hyundai Accent Hatchback.

I have added VW TDI's to my search, but people want absurd amounts of money for them. Is the MK III more reliable than the MK IV? I don't need it to be very fast, but I can't afford constant small failures. Actually, the MK III would probably suit my needs better as they are more plentiful in the U Pull It yards. Also, can you get one without power windows?

first thing i do with any fwd i get i change the timing belt and water pump most timing belts last 100k but no one never changes it tell it breaks and wonders why it takes the engine out with it.Theres a lot of small cars out there just keep your eyes open you'll find a good one.

Well, I REALLY want a 1991-1994 Nissan Sentra 2 door with the SE package (not an SE-R), 5 speed trans, white exterior and black interior. I'm not a big Tercel fan, but they are good cars. I also really don't like the Echo. I've always been a Sentra man for some odd reason. I have another friend who was into Tercels ( but now owns a Mustang GT) and have known Honda geeks too.

I won't touch a Accent. My buddy bought a 2000 hatch a couple of years ago and has had nothing but problems with it. Granted the guy he bought it from didn't take great care of it, but it has issues left and right. I mean it needed a new wheel bearing at 100k! come on! It seems that old hyundais are just bad news.

I recommend a honda all the way. I've had a 92 accord for 5 yrs now and love it. Its fun to drive and reliable. All i've had to do to it is regular maintenance. Yes they are interference engines and have a belt, but the intervals are 90,000 miles or every 6 years. I just did mine and its easy enough.

Plus my 1992 Accord books for 1000$ more than his 2000 accent    you get what you pay for

I also wonder just how bad a old Kia is if i can get it for under $500 running. Then again, I should probably just wait until I find a suitable Sentra for that money and rebuild it.

Anyhow, I have developed a list of cars I would consider for under $1,500 if they have factory A/C-working or not. They are:

1991-1999 Nissan Sentra/200sx 1.6/5speed
1988-2000 Honda Civic/CRX/Del Sol 5 speed
1990-2000 Acura Integra 5 speed
Mercedes Benz 190D 5 speed
VW Golf/Jetta TDI 5 speed
VW Rabbit Diesel or GTI
Geo Metro/Suzuki Swift 5 speed
2003+ Hyundai Accent (redesigned a bit at that point and much more reliable)

And for $500 or less (much less):
a 5 speed Kia Sephia/Rio/Spectra that runs and drives
a Hyundai Excel
Chevy Sprint
Yugo GV, GVL, or GVX( The Sport version!)

except for what i hear about the new ('09) tdi's the mk3 had the fewest problems, got the best mileage, and was the easiest to work on. and mine does 115mph on the highway with a little left over, but the acceleration dies around 90mph.
tell you the truth, i don't think you can get a mk3 tdi WITH power windows!
mine is of course manual window, manual trans. my brothers B4 passat has power everything, manual trans, and has no problems either.

Well, it's on the list. I have seen people asking absurd amounts of money for Mk IV Golf/Jetta TDI's lately, like 16k for one with 160k+ miles on it! I like the MK IV the best in terms of styling, but they are the ones I think of with spotty reputations.

get a ford festiva!!!! my friend's family owned one brand new and ran it to 250,000 miles and sold it only because they wanted something different. my friend only had to fill up his tank once a month. haha but me and two other guys could pick the back end of the car off the ground. i dunno if you want to get into a daily that you like. wait and find the right car for you. get a geo storm. those are cool cars. what about a neon or something. the transmissions go out sometimes but they are a huge abbundance around here. or ford escort? just some suggestions
