The manual transmission Hyundai Tiburon had quite a few noted problems with its clutch- it was undersize for the car and would burn up quickly. Problem only remedied by using aftermarket performance clutch.
Don't rule out a late model used Corolla as a good pizza delivery box if you find one cheap. Chain driven cams on an engine that lasts 200k easily, with both manual and auto trannies that hold up well also. Only reason I know this is my brother has an '00 Corolla that was the only thing he got out of his divorce which he beats the sh*te out of and gives minimal maintenance to and it's got over 200k on the clock. Still runs and looks respectable. I don't care for belt driven cams either, but I've never really heard of them being a problem with Honda. They used to be a big problem with DOHC Mitsubishis and Hyundai's that had DOHC Mitsu engines. Honda, Toyota and Nissan still rule the roost as far as the ricers go.
GM has not built a car I have liked or had an inkling of interest in since the end of the G and B bodies. In between two of my Toyota trucks I bought a Ford Ranger and needless to say there will never be another Ford owned by me. Every day now at work in my company '07 Caravan constantly reminds me of how much Chrysler sucks as that thing detonates down the road and produces some horrible smell under the hood that no one can figure out what it is. I don't know if I've become more picky, but even my '07 Toyota truck does not feel to be built with the quality of the two I had previous to it- I'm getting really sick of the super-cheap plastic inside cars that you can scratch with your fingernails, it's just ridiculous for what these new cars cost.
