I own 2, yes 2 (~1% of production) of the 239 1979 Grand Prix 301/4 speed cars. Both are hardtop, blue on blue, 301 cars. One is all original, the other had the trans swapped for a TH350, though I have the original shifter for it. The second runs, the motor was gone through and the body is in decent shape, missing a few small parts (alternator/brackets). The all original was running too I am told before I bought it, though it had the standard 301 knock and some a-hole put an aftermarket sun roof in it. I am thinking of selling them to help finance upgrades to my 1980 LJ T-Top car (4 speed o/d). What would the estimated value on them be, respecting I have a pair which for sure between the two can produce one complete car and probably still two. Would $2000 for the pair be low or high?

Pictures would help, any rust?

I can get them of the mod'd one, it is in my yard, the other is in storage an hour away. The one here has one spot in the driver 1/4 panel - this one was actually in a high speed chase with the police in the early late 80's or early 90's and that area got banged up a bit against a snow pile so that is where the rust came from the repair work. The story is true as I know the brother of the guy who owned it at the time. Seems a 301 won't outrun a 302 in a Crown Vic (or a radio). The floors and frame are good, it was sitting on a gravel knob for 10 years before I bought it. The other one needs some work, I moved it in the winter a few years ago and haven't ever had a chance to go through it to much.

IMO, the value of the cars wouldn't be based much on the drivetrain, even though they are rare. In order to claim that the "collector value" goes down with an engine swap, they would have to be near mint original cars. Anyways, my point is that the value is in the body/frame/interior. The factory stick is just a bonus to a buyer, and bragging rights. So I wouldn't worry about rod knock etc.

FYI I paid $1700 for mine, but it was a straight and rust free SJ with low miles (and a bad transmission). I knew it might be a bit steep, but I didn't have to pay to ship it here from a southern state either. The rust free G's here fetch a steep price.

I am in Manitoba. I have a guy interested in the parir, I told him $1500. The one is doable, the other is not in great shape. I want to stick to finishing the work I want to do on my 1980 for now.

That auction start out 25,000.00,and now down to 12,000.00 in couple days.
Nice car but its not mint, saw 79/hurst in cleveland for 7,500.00 mint!!!! low miles
wish i had bought it.
Gbarrie.

Its way too far for me to go, but I'm wondering if there's any way to have a look at some photos of the cars. Any ads online, or anything like that?

I'll get some pics up when the damn snow melts, very late spring this year.
