Am I the only one who thinks a 4 door pickup with a 5 / 6 foot bed looks odd ?

My last Chevy pickup had a 6.5 foot bed which was a downgrade from the company truck I had been driving that was an 8 foot bed. I will never have another short bed truck again. I hated the short bed. I could fit more in my mom's Subaru than I could in that tiny little box. From now on 8 foot beds only for me.

I could never justify spending 40 or 50k on a new truck, espcially if it was only a half ton, but it's nice to dream. If I were to buy a Chevy truck right now assuming I don't have unlimited funds, I'd be going for a GMT800 with the 8.1 Vortec. If I were to buy a Ford truck right now, I'd probably go for a 2003-down 3/4 ton with a 7.3 Powerstroke. If I were to buy a Dodge right now... just kidding, I'd never buy a Dodge

All of that aside, I still think these retro trucks are pretty cool.

Are you really surprised.They did to pick ups like the did to the Camaro.And there are people who are into pick ups like we are into cars ,Or are both.

Some observations about the new trucks:

1/2 ton and 1 ton, all things aside like trim pkgs COST THE SAME.

Seriously, I spent time on the build a truck sites. You could option the 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton or hd/super duty levels out 4x4, at, same v8 or diesel... and your loaded up 1/2 ton ford/chevy/gmc cost the same as the 3500/super duty.

It's price gouging pure and simple. I can't understand why you'd order a 1/2 ton when a 1 ton costs the same?? Resale value or possible future utility dictates just buy a 1 ton... oh wait... dealers are stuffing the lots with 1/2 ton crew car 4.5 foot bed models.

Fwiw, I built out 1 ton, crew cab, 4x4s with 8 foot beds. Either way, dollar for dollar it's the way to go.

I WAS disappointed in that you can't get a leather interior in ANY regular cab by ANY of the "big 3".... that seems to be a glaring omission costing them sales dollars. I won't buy a crew less than a 1 ton, what's the point if there isn't an 8 foot bed???

Try driving a crew cab long bed in a big city! Short beds are easyer to park, and get around. Took me a long time to warm up to them. Now the tiny box on a Dodge Mega Cab is pointless.

Natasha's Colorado Z71 is a crew cab with a 6' box, tailgate down that is 8' of functional space. It serves our needs perfectly as it moves everything we need well: wood, metal, furniture, waste, etc.; and drives like a car in and out of the city. Is it a little down on torque? Sure. But, we don't tow much beyond an 8' utility trailer (6 + 8 = 14), so it doesn't matter much. 4x4 is great when required. We are about to put 20" wheels on it to improve the street feel and handling over the "off-road" set up it came with, and have a fabricated rear bumper coming to resolve it being rear ended a few weeks back - and winning any future battles with Audi SUVs.

We paid $43K out the door in 2015 when our dollar was at par (or $33K US in today's money), now that same truck is $50+ sticker up here.

Sometimes, needs win over wants. And maybe that $10K difference is the balance between having groceries and wanting them.

Well if you want leather interior just have done by a local shop..Like we do with our cars.Its all depend on your taste and your pocket book.

Whats with the crew cab short bed hate? Is it because they're the best sellers? I understand if you use your truck as a truck everyday but if not it's not an issue at least in my experience. I have hauled lumber, scrap steel, dirt, pavers and a few engine blocks/transmissions and did just fine. If you can't fit things like that in a 5 3/4' bed then you're doing it wrong.

Hell I hauled my aerocoupe frame in the bed of my Cummins with the short bed just fine. My definition of "fine" might be a little different than others' 😀

Yes, but a 4 door pickup with an 8 foot bed is very hard to park.

Hey I have an idea,

Lets take something like a suburban, take the 3rd dow seat out and give it a 4ft bed, but make the back seat fold down when you need and have it be a 8ft bed regular cab when you want, and a 4dr pickup when you need it. It will be short and reuse a bunch of existing parts! Can haul lumber and plywood, but still haul a mower, pavers, or grill home from the homeless despot with the wife and kids! Brilliant!

I think the retro trucks look good for a minute. It does look good though. As for a 6' bed, try putting a tool box in there and see how small the area gets.
Everyone's needs/wants are different. I've been looking for a "new" truck CC with an 8" bed for about 8 years now.

My truck is almost retro now.
