I just finally tore apart my e4mc carburetor on my 307 which happens to be "Rebuilt" by "professionals".Now i'm not out to destroy businesses that rebuild carburetors, but some companies just shouldnt be trusted or given good hard earned money to get poor quality rebuilds like this.Ever since i have gotten my cutlass last march,i've noticed small cracks in the air horn of the qjet,i never thought to much of it,or to think that it was why my 307 wasnt running right, until i tore it off my cutlass. With mostly all qjets, they have a problem with the throttle shafts becoming loose and moving around causing vaccum leaks that makes these carburetors almost impossible to tune, thats why when rebuilding one of these you should always rebush them to prevent leaks and such. Also any throttle base plated that had cracks SHOULD either be welded precisily to repair it or have a core to salvage the plate from. This carburetor has not only loose worn out throttle shafts but cracks in the air horn and the base plate, and the air horn is super glued together!I will not specify the company that rebuilt this carburetor but i will say that some company in michigan shouldnt be trusted.I have the receipt from when the PO sent the carburetor out to be rebuilt and the price for everthing is over $300.00,what a shame.Anyone have similar problems or am i solo on this one?

shitty deal . thats why i would rather do it myself. atleast that way i can only blame my self for any screw ups

seen it waaaay too often.... this is why I rebuild my own, and have several books for the different manufacturers,in case I can't remember any specifics(happenenig too often since I passed the 40 mark 🙂 )

We've been having the same trouble with the rebuilt thermoquad we bought. The guy "guaranteed" it to be bolt and play with minor adjustments. We have had to send it back and forth 3 times so he could "swap out the jets". The old man just wouldn't listen to me when I told him to just buy an edelbrock and call it a day.

i think you should post the companies name, this way we know.

i dont think i'll post the name of the company, but this is really why you should take the time, learn a little about caburetors (or more specifically the one your rebuilding) and do it right. My cutlass has always had a rough idle, like when you disconnect one of the millions of vaccum lines that cover the engine,it'll never run right and i never had a clue it would be the throttle plates and shaft being loose.I may later post the receipt of the carburetor company to the PO,but with the exception of covering up all private info.

That's why you don't send a junk carb out for rebuilding.

Yeah, they did a shitty job, but that carb should've gone in the trash, and an undamaged core should have been sent out instead.
Chalk that up as a lesson learned.

I'm a firm believer in doing it yourself as well, or have a friend/somebody you know do it if you can't.

Personally I'd buy a Demon or BG instead of rebuilding one of the old style Holleys.
The technology now compared to then is outstanding and you don't have to mess with them every other week.
It sucks that ya got ripped off
