TIMING CHAIN or GEAR DRIVE?

A good quality replacement timing chain is fine for most engines.

Go with the gear drive, just for the LOUD factor 😛

that's about the only real reason. some people think they sound like a supercharger. personally i think it's like putting in an "exhaust whistler" or fake blow off valve and pretending you have a turbo.
and i figure that anything that loud and metal to metal should have a real oil supply to it. i know they work, but i'm not too comfortable.

Plus the timing chains wear and retart the timing, making the cars run better when people put too much cam in them.

Yeah Im not keen on gear drives either, I was only razzing about them.Actually a gear drive would transmit more vibration to the valve train than a timing chain. A lot of racecars actually use a dry belt as to help negate vibration. But a timing chain is more than sufficent for a vehicle.

yeah. ill just stick with a double roller timing chain from edelbrock or something. i know that chains stretch after while but i guess its worth it. Belt drives are way outta my pocket.

chains usually take at least 100k to stretch out to the point of causing a problem

well i took off my timing cover and looked at my setup and it didnt look my chain was tight at all. is supposed to be tight? i could wiggle it from left to right some.
