Timing for Buick V8... dot to dot?

How do you time a Buick V8 during assembly, like with the cam and crank gears and what not. Does the crank dot have to face up and the cam face towards the crank? I'm lost.

2014: 110hp 231/3.8L w/TH200c w/7.5 10 bolt 2.41 Open 84,*** Miles
2016: 1976 250hp 8:1 mild 350 SBB, .030 over, Comp 268 cam, 800cfm Quadrajet w/TH350 #1 (rip) and TH350 #2
2017: 1970 315hp/410ftlb Buick 350 Code SP Stock w/ 800cfm Qjet and Crower Level 3 cam (rip) and TH350 #2 (rip).
Now with TH350 #3 with TransGo 350-1-2 Shift Kit, 2500 stall Hughes Converter, GN 8.5 posi with 3.42s.
Does Consistent 10.3 @ 72mph in the 1/8th with 2.41s/1200 stall. 1/8th with 2500/3.42 TBD. Looking for 9.0.
2020: 1971 Buick 350. 9.75:1, 3.0 v6 flat top pistons, TA 310 Cam, Hooker Headers, TA Stage 1 Dual Plane Intake, 800cfm Qjet. Runs consistent 9.5.

1970 350: 211rwhp @5003 RPM/263rwtq @2781 RPM
1971 350: 247rwhp @~5000 RPM/274rwtq @~2800 RPM
