I'm old school and have a 80 malibu and was thinking about putting the rally wheels from the late 60's to mid 70's on. Was going with 15x8 rear and 14x6 front, ? is how wide of a tire can I go to that thay don't stick out from the fenders ??

It's not the tire size size that will make it stick out from the fender, it's the backspacing of the rim itself. On a 15x8 rim, you can fit a 255 to 275 size tire comfortably. For backspacing with that rim, I would recommend 3" to 4.5" for the rear.

The front is more like 3.75" backspace to 4" at the most. For a 14x6 rim, 205, or maybe 215 tires I'm pretty sure are the widest you can go.

I like the 245/60/15 on the rear and 215/70/14 or 215/65/15 on the front.

215/70/14 = 25.9" tall looks good with 245/60/15 ie 26.6" or even 255s
225/70/14 = 26.5" tall looks good with 255/60/15 ie 27.1" or even 275/60/15 ie 28.0"
BFG makes all these sizes and Sams Clubs can get them cheap with no shipping.
Firestone Firehawk Indys are a better tire and look great but may no longer be available in all those sizes.
