Too much $ for 8.5?

I was thinking the a bodies would have the upper control arm mounts already

The 64 to 72 10 and 12 bolt axles will go in with the special upper control arms. They are wider, especially the 68 to 72, so offset wheels are needed. The 73 and up rears would have highway gears and are the same width as the later B bodies, basically the same cars suspension wise, way too wide. I can get a 9" housing in driving distance, done on a jig for around $600 plus he usually has decent used gears for sale and sets them up for GM backing plates.

I bought my 8.5 a few years ago.. I knew what I was getting when I bought it, paid 550 for it and spent another 1k in parts and tools to rebuild it, hindsight I should went with a 9''. At the time I wanted the car to be all GM and Olds powered. If I was to do it over again I go a different route that is for sure.

64 to 67 are 2.5" wider and need the conversion uppers and lowers with a joint on the axle side to compensate for the bracket on the axle tube being further in than the bracket on the G body rear. I have 4.5" BS on my front and rear rims which are 17x8 with 245-50-17 tires. The 68 to 72 are 4.5" wider and need only the conversion uppers, you can use the stock lowers. JBrue has the 68 to 72 A body rear so he could tell you what wheels he uses.
