Decades ago I had a 74 grand prix with a 400 and a th400 with 2.93 gears that I got clocked at 143mph.....back then the provincial cops were driving Chrysler K cars so he showed up at the out of town bar I was working at after I was in the bar getting ready for my shift so he couldn't give me a ticket since it wasn't "me" driving at the time...

i had a nice 350 in my Abody monte 3.08 gear 275/50/15 that got me to 175 at about 4500rpm
I'd love to see the "time slip" on that one...................

that's strange cause that 74 GP I had was running basically the same height in tire and my transmission in 3rd was 1-1 like a Monte and to do that 143 my tach was around 5500 if I can remember right. I guess I needed a serious tune up since I lost a whole lot of speed and a 1000 rpm....

this thread is a bad influence

I took my cutlass out the other night and topped it out. 2:41 gears, kept it in 3rd (2004r), 350 olds mild build, 27" tire. Wouldnt go any higher than ~4300rpm. Calc'ed out to be 143mph. L/U was not hooked up on the converter, so im sure it was slipping some. Was very stable at that speed though, car sucked right down to the ground and the steering felt tight.

lol it may be but oh well lol and imma put all my mods on prolly 2 weeks lol also i gotta put a new tach in lol this truck might not look too good but it will be quick

Nope, it's still bs. It's not about wether I believe you or if your car was capable of that speed. It's math, plain and simple. And your bullshit numbers don't add up.
Check it yourself, here's another link.

Everyone exaggerates sometimes, and it's not a big deal, but damn at least get it close.

If it was just my opinion that it couldn't go that fast(which by the way it is), I would have most likely kept it to myself. Now I wonder how you will argue the numbers. The 113 I came up with was based off numbers right from your post, and that is with no convertor slippage, which there will be, and I put in for a 26in tall tire when the 275/50/15 actually slightly less.

If you play with that calculator long enough i'm sure you will be able to come back and say that you actually had a 2.00:1 gear ratio or a 40in tall tire to actually get to your claimed speed.

At least Pat said he coulda been wrong.
