Torque to 70 ft-lbs in 3 equal steps=1. 23 ft-lbs, 2. 46 ft-lbs, 3. 70 ft-lbs, done.

Question I can undo them and redo it as the step you gave me right. Wasn't sure once they are tighten they can't be reused?

If it were me I would replace the heads gaskets and follow proper torque method with the new set.

Damn so I have buy another new set of gasket? Daaaamn!
I have always followed the 3 step torque method, to me it would not be worth the risk to assemble and install the engine only to find out you have compromised the head gaskets with your click it and done method.

I am just saying what I would do, is the money saved worth the gamble some might say yes but I am not one of them.

Back them all off, LUBE, and retorque properly. If you didn't use any LUBE, your "70ft/lbs" is all friction, and you haven't reached final torque. Did you read the article I posted by Jeff Smith? It explains everything. And, since you're talking head bolts, did you follow the proper torque sequence?

Every now and again I do break my self-imposed rule on replying to noobs with less than 25 posts, but I'm an old geezer that has been where you are and can maybe save you from a little heartache (and maybe a couple of bucks) down the road here with a bit of advice. You MIGHT get lucky and not have ruined the gaskets because instant 70 non-lubed may not have gotten past all the friction. You might not have reached the right clamping force. Your call. Personally I'd get a new set of gaskets. Sorry.

Getting f**ked in the arse every once in a while reminds you that when you don't take the time to do it right the first time, there's always enough time to do it again. I could fill up a wall of shame for some of the parts I've screwed up over the years because I was young, dumb, and full of c*m, and thought I knew wtf I was doing until I found out I didn't. Sometimes you learn the hard way, sometimes when someone pointed it out for me. I've messed up parts worth several hundred dollars only to do it again. So don't feel knocked up or out of place. Look at it as a $47 educational fee from the school of hard knocks.

Consider checking out some of those recommended websites about bolts and torques. If you don't know, it's ok. None of us come out of the womb knowing the torque values for a 3/8"-16 bolt. but if you want to be good at using that high tech digital torque wrench, then learn what it's telling you and learn how to get the most out of it. Toools are only as good as the user.

Consider changing a head gasket set now because it is better than getting it all together, blowing them out when it's in the car, then having to pull it all apart later.

Go slow, double and even triple check your work if it's the first time you're doing something, and better yet, ask and learn from other people who has done it. You won't be the first to mess up, and you sure won't be the last.
