Has anyone used a towncars crossmember in their gbody? I heard you just have to cut off 2 inches from each end, flatten and drill. Plus use a spacer. Did a search but came up short on info.

I do recall someone mentioning using a Mercury Marquis cross member on a G-body. Probably the same thing as the Town car.
I believe he also mentioned flattening the ends and re-drilling it.

I first saw the post over on G-body Central in the parts interchange section (2-06-2011@9:23 PM). The crossmember is made out of 2" tubing and in fairly light weight. It's from a mid-late 1980's Towncar. You cut 2" off each end and add a spacer ( 1 1/4") between the trans and the trans mount (or cut off and raise the mount itself), then drill new cross member mounting holes in each end to mount the member to the frame.
It's said to be light weight and looks factory after the install. The author of the post said he spent $4.00 for the cross member.

Oh, it's a double hump cross member!

yes, it is a double hump. thought it would be cheaper, cost 15.00 at the local upull. I am a little confused on the spacer. for a 1.25 spacer is that one inch plus a quarter inch of metal or can I use the rubber supports that came with the crossmember and a piece of metal on top of it?

I just posted what was said on that cross member post. When he said to use a 1.25 spacer on the trans mount, I'm assuming he meant to use a metal spacer between the trans. mount on the cross member and the stock trans, rubber mount. (?) He said you could cut the cross member trans, mount off and raise it up (1.25") instead of using the spacer.
