I went to the junkyard this weekend and pulled off some inner fenders for my GP. I also went to to a mid 80's regal and looked underneath and found this.. http://s387.photobucket.com/albums/oo31 ... 091318.jpg
Sorry for the poor pic quality. I pulled it cuz my curiosity got the best of me. Is a gear reduction cable? I would appreciate any input. My speedo is way off about 20 plus so can i use this? BTW i have a 2004r and 3.73 gears hope this helps some.
Thanks

No wires on it? I was thinking cruise control, maby they had it at one point and added that instead of buying a non cruise cable, which is longer.
I think that unit and cable to the right is about the difference in length, so they cheeped out.

Although it could be a gear reduction of some type.

That's the speedo cable from the transmission side and the unit is for the cruise control..

No it isn't. That's a speedo reduction gear. Very common on GM cars in the 60s and 70s to fine tune the speedo accuracy for different tire sizes.

It was plugged in inline with the speedo cable and the trans. Any body know the reduction ratio?

They were available in a number of different ratios.

Your right, I should have taken a better look at it......It does look somewhat similar to a unit on friends 1970 buick wildcat that for the cruise control but the speedo cable was much longer and the unit was up near the firewall...and come to think of it I don't even know if what he had was a stock part, it's been decades since I've seen him....he had his car rigged for everything and he was a genius when it came to electric automotive stuff
