Trans. crossmember problems

That's the mount I was referring to, the offset one. Jrm81bu has the link. That one should place the crossmember over the frame holes correctly. Did you try raising the trans out of the way and lineing up the frame holes? Because if you are saying that, disregarding the trans completely, the holes are still way off, then either the crossmember is wrong for that frame or something got tweaked. Is this the crossmember from this car? If not, what did it come out of? Could the car have been in an accident? I guess if nothing else works you could weld or bolt a plate to each end of the crossmember a to fit over the frame holes. I did that when the ends rusted right off mine. While I was at it I changed the location for the transmission mount so I could use the F body poly mount.

I am ignoring the trans when trying to install the crossmember. I just though it was odd that I can still bolt up the trans mount. The crossmember was from an 84 Cutlass Salon with a 3 speed trans, not sure if it was a 200 or 350 trans. We took the crossmember he sold me and mocked it up on a different frame and it fit perfect in the 350 spot on the frame. I really don't think my car was in an accident. I would be having many more problems besides the crossmember not fitting if the frame was tweaked that bad. Since I can get one bolt on each side bolted up and the trans mount bolted up, I will just leave it for now. It should be good enough to move the car around under its own power. When all the snow is gone, I will take a look at g bodies in the junk yard and see if I can find the differences with my frame compared to others.

Man, you really got me scratching my head on this one. Seems you covered all the bases. I have 3 A/G-body crossmembers and they all fit the same. I'd love to know what the problem is too so don't forget to post when you find out what the heck the deal is.

sorry when ever I try and go to the Advanced Parts webpage my virus scan starts blowing up warnings on me. So I tend to avoid it.

IDK why but I still think something looks wrong about his passenger side frame rail ... if it wasn't buried in snow and probably sinking into mud .... I'd go snap pix of that side of my car's frame and take measurements for him to compare.

Is it even remotely possible that GM used multiple crossmembers with only minor differences? I bought Minion's 2004r crossmember off of his 86 Cutlass Salon to put on my 86 Cutlass Supreme Brougham w/ 2004r transmission, and I had aignment problems too. My crossmember didn't lne up with the holes on the driver's side of the framerail, but ined up with the passenger side and the transmission. I had to drill holes in thframe about 1 inch to towards the front of the car from the stock location to get it to fit. I will take pictures next time i get it on a lift.

be the first I've heard of such .... IDK what my 200-4r crossmember even came from (dude I bought it from had an even older El Camino), but with the frame extension it fit the 81 like a glove .... only to find out my engine and trans were offset lol!

damn, really?i think it all depends on the wear of the crossmember and the frame.Installing a new x member on an old worn frame can cause alignment issues.I just bought my tubular x member from gbodyparts.com and it also wont line up,and its for a th350

I got a different crossmember and that one fits great. Didn't even need the offset mount for the trans. It's still a mystery why the other crossmember didn't fit.

how many plants made G-Bodies? maybe the plant it came from has something to do with it....

anyone have a G-Body VIN Decoder?
