What i did was lift the car up and set it on jackstands. Then i set the trans on 3 pieces of cardboard about as wide and long as the trans. I then proceded to push the trans under the car and into place. By using more than one piece of cardboard, the trans will end up with one sheet under it and a trail of sheets from where you pushed it from. Then you can use a pry bar between the ground and the pan to lift it up enough to shimmy a piece of wood on each side until it's up high enough to slide your jack under. Or if the engine is out, just lift with your knees and have someone slide the jack under. I've done at least half a dozen like this in the driveway. Just have to stick the dipstick tube back in after you slide it under. Use stock pan for sliding trans around, chrome one after its installed, or if using stock pan and its super clean, then tape up a sheet of cardboard to it so its not scratched.

i did this last weekend. jack up as high as you can on the front and the rear axle. then i took the tire off the lf set my jack on a 4x6 and used a chunk of 4x6 under the ball joint got it just high enough to get it under. believe me you are not going to get it on the jack while its under the car, we tried for like 3 hours before we finally resorted to the above method.
so your saying that just jacking up one corner with the wood blocks will get it high enough? sounds a bit dangerous to me...but worth a shot I guess. Thanks

using that jack it slid right under the frame once i got it up high enough. just go slow and stop if you think something is going to happen. also, always keep jack stands in the right places to catch it if it falls.

Guess Ive been lucky jacking up cars, never had a problem using a large wood block to lift a vehicle. You might just have to get a friend to lay under the car with ya and lift the trans up in there, yes this sucks but I've been forced to do this a couple times.
Actually, this worked quite well and without any issues. I lifted the car high enough so the trans would roll under on the jack, then lowered it back down once the trans was in the center. Had to shim the trans in the front so it would mate up with the engine, but it worked!
