Been a few months . I mothballed my 86 olds due to moving. Starting tomarrow i am removing the interior to weld the roof and a few tiny patches. Transmission is still missing reverse. It's a plain Jane 307 with 5 a heads hooked up to a 200r4. On good days it's ok. No race car no dog either. But the trans I could get to 30 mph , stop , get out, Jack it up, manually shift the linkage into the next gear, drop it down , get in and be faster than it will shift on its own. Sure it's because it's tired? Kick down literally half of "free bird" Is done playing. This thing Absolutely sucks!! Noticed tons of shift kits. Will this fix the slushbox? If it's a natural trait for sluggish shifts in not even going to bother keeping it. Recommend any brands? Figure id fix the rust. Rebuild the trans. Will almost be a daily driver besides a shotty starter and a carb needing rebuilt.

I like Transgo kits but I haven't worked on a 200-4R. A shift kit with an overhaul should get it to perform well. Since it likely isn't a performance version of the 200-4R, the governer will need to be modified or replaced to get the shift points up at higher speeds.

I'll look them up. I'm running 373s anything else should I look into before taking it in for rebuilding. Budget is around 1500 bucks like to pick a few brains. Torque converter options...ect. I am planning a 350 olds swap so I will also be going computerless. Talked to the builder not a problem. He can install whatever. But will not give me advice other than to rebuild it to factory correct. Annoying but it's his business and will not be blamed in case the afternaket stuff makes it worse. Stock agreement with labor is $865.35 Decent price guy is a family friend.

Looking into the monster in a box kit. $459.00 however super expensive tourqe converter. Anyone use them? Seem to be a leader
