Transmision questions

If I have a th250 and rebuild it as a th350 what kind of power can I put to it? I'm building a 4.3L that i hope to supercharge and produce at least 400 or maybe even 500hp. If that isn't realistic what are my options? I'm on a tight budget. I've managed to get most of my parts cheap or free, but I know changing the transmission will be costly and it might force me to change my plans.

if your planning to put that much hp into it I wouldn't be bothering with the 250....you have a better and stronger platform with a 350 to upgrade it where needed for the hp you want to run...

To answer your question of a th200 being able t bolt to a small block chev, they did make them and they did use them in 78. My 78 Lemans is a factory 305 with a th200. Which i will be swapping for a 700r4 very soon.

I see your point....out of curiosity what is the cost of a rebuild kit?

Last time I rebuilt one it cost me around $250. That was for a new converter (B&M 2100), rebuild kit, and transpack. Yes it is true that it is easier to start with a th350, if you're are unsure about what to upgrade and such. One definite upgrade (on either one) if you're putting that much power to it, should be the input sprague, stock ones are weak. The bad side to this is the stronger version will run you about $300.
