i got an 86 cutlass salon i was told it was a 3.8 car. the car had a 455 in that was removed and now i have installed a 307 with 350 trans .my problem is the crossmember which is the original one from the car is about 6 inches rearward from the mount on the transmission. since i didnt remove the original engine i hope i have bolted it back correctly i saw a picture of one and it looks like it goes diagonally instead of straight across any pictures or ideas would be helpful thanks in advance

From what you know, did the 455 have a TH400 behind it? If so that maybe a TH200-4R crossmember that was used for the TH400. With it being an '86 it will/should have the proper mount positions for both crossmembers, it could be the the TH200/TH250/TH350 crossmember mounted in the wrong position on the drivers side (rear is for the TH200-4R, front is for the TH200/TH250/TH350.)

I think an '86 Cutlass would have had a 200-4R. Most people have the opposite problem, nothing to bolt the TH350 crossmember into that far back on the frame rail when swapping in a 200-4R. In the photo below, I added an extension to make this swap. Your cutlass probably has the two holes on a pad close to the foreground. Just curious, does the 86 Cutlass have two extra holes forward on the driver's side? The stock TH350 mounts through the two holes near the jackstand. Can you share a photo?

You might be able to pick up a TH250/350 crossmember cheap from a Forum member throwing it out for an aftermarket double-hump model.

There was a thread about that, 86 cutlasses apparently didnt come with TH200r4s as an option. Someone put that x member in ther for the 455/400 combo. You need a stock TH200c/TH350 x member. Or a jegs, g force, iceman, etc for a TH350.

Thanks, Timo, for the picture. This is that the TH350/250/200 frame mount for the crossmember looks like with the car removed.
