Transmission lost R

Have a 78 GP and the transmission has lost reverse. I've been told that it is more hassle getting the transmission repaired than getting a reconditioned one but am turning to you guys for advice.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom before I go down this route? Best suppliers or someone who knows how to rebuild them? I'm 50 miles SE of Columbus, Ohio.

Did you look in the glove box! Seriously there are bunches of auto parts store that sell rebuilds from nationwide rebuilders with warranty. Anyone have experience with Jasper? There must be Trans repair shops in your area. I wouldn't go with nationwide shop as they deal in/out get you out the door quickly.
