ok so earlier i got on the gas and when i let off i could sense something, the car didn't down shift. and i can hear whistling, or hissing noise, and my speedometer was stuck on 20 mph. i just went around the block with it, and the car takes off good, but never shirts, and the rpms are a lil high, if you get on the gas it wants to go, but the whistling noise starts again, the speedo still stuck what can be the problem?

TH350? I had a similar thing happen years back. It ended up being the vacuume line that gos to the transmission. Mine was kinked. After fixing the hose, it shifted fine.

But your speedo problem probably isn't related to your shifting problem.

^^What he said^^. But the speedo thing is a different problem.

I would say first check the vacuum line to the modulator on the tramsmission. The speedo problem could be the head unit itself. Make sure the speedo cable is lubed also.

thanks everybody, i got under the car today and lo and behold, the vaccum line to the modulator was popped off. the part where the rubber hose connects to the mod, the ribbed part at the tip that the rubber hose slips over was broken off somehow, so the hose just slid off, i slipped the hose back on and it drives and shifts fine, bought a new modulator to replace the old one but i'll do that tommorrow, the mosquitos in the evening are bad!!!! big TEXAS size ones. does the modulator just slip off and you slip the new one on? i see there is a hold down like on the distributor, i'm assuming you take that off, then the new one pops in to place? does any fluid come out?

not to highjack the thread but...

on a th350, is the hole where the kickdown cable bolted on a high pressure seal/hole?

I can't get a fine/coarse/or metric bolt of any size in there to save my life and I'm not about to go drilling and tapping after the engine's already mounted in.

If it's not a high pressure area, I'm just gunna force in a wood screw  and deal with the tap/thread later if I ever pull it out

(or sooner if ATF starts pouring everywhere)

if you can wait till tomorrow I'll check one of the 350 trannys at the shop

ya let me know....

I might have it jammed in there tomorrow morn. though. I'm almost positive the threads are stripped and that's why I can't find the right one. It made me wonder when I bought the thing why they didn't give me the cable and now I'm thinkin that's the reason
