transmission question, intermittent?

Thank you everyone for the reply. I'll stay away from the TV cable as I have never adjusted it. What causes the issues with the governor?

X2 on the governor sticking. Most times changing fluid and filter in an automatic causes problems. It just seems to dislodge particles that can possibly hang up valves and cause problems. Not to mention a lot of people may be having issues with their transmissions and think a fluid and filter change will fix something and generally the opposite happens. I used to be in the auto trans . business and saw this frequently..timo22

Got ya....the intermittentance can be caused by the "crud" in there. Should I just clean it out and reinstall or replace it? Lastly could the use of my hydraulic suspension have caused this in any way?
Also is it safe to drive it to the shop for service or should I flat bed it? Don't want to make situation worse.

not unless you're using your transmission pump and fluid to power your hydraulics....😛

Lol...too funny! Wasn't sure if somehow my hydros could cause it as I know that the drive shaft does move a little between fully locked up and fully dropped with the suspension at the transmission output shaft.. Think it's safe to drive to service?

If it is this governor...will I be able to shift it manually on the column to drive it to the shop or is 1st gear my only option?

First , you need to figure out what transmission you have. Since it is a v6 with a 3 speed auto, it will be a turbo 350 (250) or a 200 Metric. If it has a vacuum modulator (located passenger side rear of trans) it is a 350. If it has no modulator, it is a 200. 200's are junk and not worth rebuilding. I would run it til it drops..But in the meanwhile, I would locate a short shaft Bop style Turbo 350 and put it in its place. This is an easy conversion and a major upgrade to your drivetrain. If you need more info on converting , pm me and I can fill you in...timo22

The 200 is pretty junky. I definitely wouldn't waste my money rebuilding one. The TH350 on the other hand is a good transmission. They can be made to be great with some work. The swap is really easy. They're the same length so you don't even have to get a different driveshaft. If you want to stick with a 3 speed automatic, the TH350 is the way to go.

Wanted to update everyone. Took it in to the transmission shop everyone recommend in my town. Drove it in...car won't shift into 3rd unless i manually shift it on the column. Other then that was ok. It is a 200 transmission w no overdrive. Tech pulled the pan, keep in mind was just done about 500 miles ago...pan had paper pieces in it, and little pieces of rubber. Tech said clutch is going and internal seals are going. Didn't even pull governor as he said no point, transmission is on way out and it's probably just getting crud stuck in it. Recommended the TH350 and said the 200 is garbage. Said to do the swap for a rebuilt TH350, looking at $1100. That's with doing my rear main seal as well on my motor. Thoughts?

Not sure what you did about this, but if you're going to be spending the money and it's only going behind a V6 I'd just recommend going with a 200-4R or a 700R4. It's nice to have an overdrive gear for better gas mileage and reduced highway noise.

Sorry if I'm ressurrecting a dead thread, but I was just looking up top speed governors and saw that question just hanging there.
